The Greencastle community dreamt of a new YMCA facility for decades. The City of Greencastle made that dream a reality.
The City of Greencastle, the YMCA of the Wabash Valley, and Putnam County Hospital came together to bring a YMCA to serve all ages – children to seniors – to Putnam County. The City funded the facility and will lease the facility to the YMCA and the Hospital.
The new Putnam County YMCA features nearly 60,000 square feet of recreational space, including (3) basketball courts, a fitness center, group exercise rooms, a teen center, offices, and a childwatch room. A large community room and teaching kitchen will allow both the Y and hospital to offer educational programs.
The facility will also include 11,000 square feet of medical space for the hospital’s Prompt Care, Family Medicine, Physical Therapy and Occupational Medicine components.
While the design fits the needs of the community today, the new Putnam County YMCA was also designed for future growth. A natatorium is planned, along with a fieldhouse, a childcare center, and an advanced career academy.
Currently under construction, the facility is scheduled is open in winter 2024.
