For too long, young people in northeast Indiana have faced a narrow path to success—one that often seemed to begin and end with college. But not every student’s future follows the same route. The Jim Kelley Career Pathway Center changes the conversation, opening doors to careers in skilled trades and providing a clear vision of what life could look like beyond traditional higher education.
A collaborative effort between Fort Wayne Community Schools and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, the Center is designed to inspire, equip, and empower students with the knowledge and hands-on experience they need to build a sustainable future. The space offers a dynamic environment where students develop both technical expertise and critical soft skills—like resume writing and interview techniques—preparing them to confidently step into the workforce.
When Elevatus was selected to design the Jim Kelley Career Pathway Center, we brought our expertise in career technical education (CTE) learning spaces to the forefront. We set out to create more than just a training facility—we envisioned an engaging, interactive environment where students could explore career possibilities, discover their strengths, and develop real-world skills.
The Center’s design emphasizes collaboration, adaptability, and accessibility. State-of-the-art learning labs are equipped with industry-specific tools, giving students hands-on experience in automotive technology, construction trades, information technology, manufacturing, welding, and supply chain management—fields that resonate with local employers and contribute to a strong regional workforce.
A key design challenge was ensuring the space could accommodate both structured daytime programming for Fort Wayne Community Schools and after-school programming for Boys & Girls Club members. The result is a versatile, multi-use facility that supports various learning styles and schedules, ensuring that students of all backgrounds have access to valuable training.
Today, the Jim Kelley Career Pathway Center is more than a building—it’s a launchpad for success. Young people who once saw limited options now have tangible, hands-on experiences that build confidence and skills in high-demand trades. For local employers, the Center serves as a direct pipeline for skilled talent, strengthening the region’s workforce and fostering economic growth.
By creating a space where students can explore career possibilities, develop technical expertise, and gain real-world confidence, the Jim Kelley Career Pathway Center is changing the narrative on post-secondary success—one student at a time.
