Groundbreaking kicks off construction of new DeKalb County Highway campus

WATERLOO, Ind. — Ground has been broken at the site of the future one-stop-shop campus of the DeKalb County Highway Department.

DeKalb County officials and representatives from design, engineering, and construction partners including Elevatus gathered May 19 at the site, located on the west side of Waterloo off U.S. 6, to formally break ground on the $8.749 million project.

The new highway department campus will include office space, a mechanic shop, a truck wash bay, a truck parking garage, storage structures, a salt barn, and a fuel station.

The new campus will replace the highway department’s facility on Ensley Avenue in Auburn.

Elevatus handled the design of the campus. FCI Construction is the construction manager.

The project is set to be complete in early 2024.
