Christmas Traditions of Elevatus
The Christmas season is a time for family traditions – those customs that families do every holiday season, without fail. Maybe you watch a certain movie together. Perhaps you eat a certain food. Whatever it is, it’s your Christmas tradition, and you probably look forward to it every year as Christmas approaches.
We asked the Elevatus staff for their personal Christmas traditions. Here’s what they had to say:
JOSHUA JONES
“Every year as a kid I received a new Christmas ornament for that year. I liked the idea so much that I now do this with my kids. When they (if they) move out, they have ornaments for their tree.”
GREG WEHLING
“We watch ‘Christmas Vacation’ as a family every year. Basically, we recite every word during the movie!”
HAILEY JOHNSON
“My family Christmas tradition every year is that my mom, dad, and I stay home all Christmas day to relax and have family time. This always includes cinnamon rolls in the morning, fresh from the oven! We will have a home cooked dinner, too, which usually consists of steak with some sides. A year or two now though, we have ordered Chinese food, which is a fun way to switch it up. Each of us will gift something to all 3 of us everyone can enjoy. Our common gifts tend to be games or movies but have also gone the route of a Lego set. Then on Christmas day, we do that said activity. I always look forward to this tradition to spend time with my parents on Christmas day!”
BRIAN BRACHT
“We hide a pickle ornament in the Christmas Tree. The person who finds it receive an extra gift.”
BRETT GAUGER
“My family loves spending time together doing fun traditions over the holidays! We enjoy attending Fort Wayne Komets hockey games, eating really tasty food (especially sugary), looking at Christmas lights, and watching classic Christmas movies. Some of the movies we love watching are Elf, Christmas Vacation, and Home Alone.”
DESIRAE SHERRY
“My favorite Christmas tradition is, ever since I was a little girl, me and my mom would bake cookies all day long on Christmas Eve.”
KARLA BUCHAN
“One of our favorite Christmas traditions is having brunch at our house with family and playing games the rest of the day. We play anything from Spoons, Uno, Mexican Train, Hand and Foot to made up board games my son made when he was little. It really does come down to just spending time together, that is my favorite!”
JODI VOIROL
“On Christmas Eve, we get together after church with extended family, eating great food and playing games. Then on Christmas Day, we open presents with family, have brunch, relax, & watch Christmas movies!”
NOËL WINTERS
“As I was born on Christmas Day, one of my favorite traditions has always been to celebrate Christmas in the morning and my parents went into party planning mode to celebrate my birthday in the evening. My mom made sure my birthday presents were wrapped in birthday paper and a birthday cake awaited for me to make a wish.”
TONY VIE
“I’ve bought my wife a new Christmas Tree ornament every year since we’ve been engaged. We now have enough to decorate a small tree with nothing but those ornaments.”
ANA CHAPELA
“We get dressed up in fancy clothes and eat food and dance, then we open presents at midnight on Christmas Eve, which is the Latinx Christmas!”
