Fort Wayne Community Schools desired to be a part of the Electric Works Innovation District by integrating key project-based learning programs within the district and capitalizing on opportunities to have students and faculty work side-by-side with area innovators, corporate leaders, and institutional backers.
FWCS worked with Elevatus Architecture to design a 400-student high school-based program focused on recruiting and developing professional skills in the region. Amp Lab at Electric Works programs includes urban agriculture, digital music and audio production, computer graphics and animation, and entrepreneurship. This school is in a historic manufacturing facility being restored and re-visioned as an educational key to the innovation district.
The facility houses large lab spaces for each program, supporting breakout and small group work rooms, an active learning street for student work and display, abundant technology, and support spaces for faculty and staff. Some key specialty components include an urban farming/science lab, grow room/greenhouse, and multiple audio recording labs supporting live music recording to podcast development.
